I see what they’re thinking here, but I’m not sure this is one of those issues that you can wedge public opinion on the industry.
I think this will backfire - Attacks on Amodei will probably be seen as attacks on AI, I don’t think there’s a large constituency of people waiting for an excuse to love AI, the wedge they’ll create will continue to be between AI supporters and non supporters. Are people really waiting in the wings to flock to Altman? _maybe_ Musk in theory but not in practice. I think most of a Trump’s supporters support Musk when he’s useful not on principle. Huang? Who’s the good guy here they’re looking to lift up?
I buried my own lede here in that Amodei is one of the worlds biggest AI boosters! Sure he might disagree with them, but the fight is on the margins, he’s not going to hit back.
